Stainless Steel 431 Bars and Rods are made from a martensitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that boasts impressive hardness, strength, and moderate resistance to corrosion. Typically, this alloy contains 16–18% chromium, 2–2.5% nickel, and 0.2–0.25% carbon, striking a balance between toughness and wear resistance. It can be heat-treated to reach high hardness levels of up to 50 HRC while still maintaining a tensile strength of around 850–1100 MPa. The material shows good fatigue resistance, moderate ductility, and enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard martensitic steels, making it perfect for components that face both mechanical stress and corrosive environments.
